Mitchell County is named for General Henry Mitchell of Hancock County. General Mitchell was a great leader in the movement for independence during the Revolutionary War. Camilla serves as the county seat of Mitchell County and was named for General Mitchell's nineteen-year-old granddaughter.
Located on Georgia State Highway 19, Camilla is convenient to Northern Florida, Southern Alabama and Interstate 75. We are also the center of one of the most efficient, irrigated agricultural production systems in the world. Crops such as peanuts, pecans, and cotton are grown in the fertile fields surrounding Camilla. Most of these crops are also processed here, giving employment to residents and profit to area businesses.
