Mayor’s Message

Hello and welcome to the City of Camilla’s website. Our official motto for almost 20 years, "Growing Toward Tomorrow" has unofficially been changed to include "together", which reflects our commitment to "Growing Toward Tomorrow, Together". Camilla has come a long way since its’ founding in 1857 as an agricultural community. We are a full-service community with city-owned utilities to include water, sewer, electric, natural gas, cable television, telephone, and fiber optic high speed internet services. Our government is a city manager led entity with a mayor and six council members providing guidance for policies and procedures.

Camilla is blessed with an ideal location. Situated in a prime agricultural area, a large portion of its business activities are agriculture related. It is the county seat of Mitchell County and a hub for commerce in southwest Georgia. Located on busy four-lane US 19, it is a popular alternate route from Atlanta to the Florida line and just an hour's drive from Interstate 10 and Interstate 75. The Camilla-Mitchell County Airport, with its 5,000 foot lighted runway, provides easy accessibility for private and corporate jets.

A unique city with a year-round social season, Camilla offers a variety of events showcasing our city and southern hospitality. The "Southeast Invitational Art Show and Sale," which features more than 40 artists, is held in February. During April, the "Mitchell County Pro Tennis Invitational", represented by two dozen top touring tennis professionals, is hosted and enjoyed by spectators and local citizens. GNAT Days, an annual festival held in May, combines a variety of unique crafts, enticing foods, races, music, and an outdoor dance and concert into a fun filled and memorable day. In July we celebrate our nation's birthday with a city-sponsored fireworks display that is enjoyed by local citizens and visitors from surrounding counties. Starting in August, the high school football teams provide sports fans with championship performances as well as their basketball counterparts starting in November. In December the town is engulfed in the Christmas Season that is officially kicked off with a gala parade that lights up the streets with the "Lights of the Season." Throw in a large serving of anytime down home southern "get-togethers" and Camilla becomes a place of fun and enjoyment for the whole family and a Must Stop on any itinerary.

Camilla has a number of agencies that enhance the quality of life experiences for its citizens. The award winning Boys & Girls Club of Mitchell County has four clubs in Camilla and Pelham for children ages six to eighteen, teaching a variety of courses that help transform young people into productive and successful citizens. The De Soto Regional Library provides a wide offering of library services for users at all learning and interest levels. The Mitchell County Recreation Department provides year-round recreation activities including football, baseball, softball, soccer, and tennis. Home to a diverse population, Camilla is committed to an inclusive vision to further develop its resources and opportunities to provide all citizens a chance to live the American Dream. We continue to aggressively seek new industry, improve our school systems, and make our close-knit communities even safer and cleaner. Camilla has a rich history but all agree her best days are still ahead. The civic leaders are committed to ensuring Camilla continues to "Grow Toward Tomorrow, Together".

It is an honor and a privilege to serve the City of Camilla as its’ Mayor and on behalf of the City Council and all the citizens of Camilla, I extend an invitation to you to experience the charm and southern hospitality that Camilla is known for. We are sure you will enjoy what you find and hope your visit turns into a lifetime love affair with the City of Camilla.
